About Penticton Search & Rescue

Penticton and District Search and Rescue is an all volunteer 24/7 - 365 days year Search and Rescue organization that has been in existence since 1973. The organization operates under the non-profit organization “ Penticton and District Emergency Services Society “ and is wholly supported by donations and public grants from the community.

Our 40 member volunteer team responds to approximately 30 calls for service each year and commits over 8000 hours of time annually to the service. Like all SAR Teams in the Province and everywhere each member is also responsible for purchasing and maintaining their own equipment. For some personnel this can be a significant expense, depending on the speciality area they are involved in and their personnel commitment. All of our services are no cost to the people of Southern BC and to the subjects we rescue.

To be activated, a request is made to the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) by a tasking agency (Police, Ambulance, BC Coroners Service, Fire Services or local Government). PENSAR operates under the policies, procedures and guidelines set out by Emergency Management BC which include standards for safety, training, rescue equipment and guidelines under which a SAR group may be activated.
